Houllier disappointed by ex-Reds

The Reds boss has hit out at the many former Reds who are currently employed in the media after witnessing a unsavoury feud develop between Phil Thompson and Ian St John.

Houllier said: "There are some players who get upset about what is said. They just can't understand how a former player can be so critical of his own club," commented Houllier.

"It always seems to be Liverpool under fire because of course so many former Liverpool players are employed by TV and radio. There are 22 currently working in the media as pundits - that's a whole squad.

"Sometimes I envy Everton because they seem to get support from their ex-players even through the hard times.

"What I will say about these echoes of the past is that the game has changed, and there are things going on now that even Bill Shankly wouldn't have had to deal with
