"I feel disappointed for the players and the fans," said Houllier. "It's a game we should have won.

"We had enough chances to win the game but it doesn't seem to be happening our way at the moment, but we need to stay strong.

When asked about Sami Hyypia's unexpected absence from today's squad, Houllier said: "He was comppaining about tiredness and he didn't feel well before Vitesse Arnhem game. It was a chance to rest him."

"I think that the good way of look at it is that we create chances. so I'm pleased with the way that we play and the efforts.

"At the same time we know we have to keep our head up."

Liverpool play Everton next and go into the game below them in the league.

"I'm looking forward to that game," added Houllier. "It could be a good kickstart for our season again."
