Houllier dismisses Finnan speculation

With Markus Babbel's Anfield career in serious jeopardy it would seem that Liverpool would be interested in the services of an attack-minded right-back to complement the qualities offered by John Arne Riise on the left flank. Houllier, though, has been quick to play down any possible move for the Republic of Ireland international.

He said: I have seen the reports. But recently I have also been linked with Fernandes, with Boumsong, with Mexes and with Cisse. I expect there to be speculation every week. I can dismiss this.

"I am happy with the squad we have and I am concentrating on the remainder of this season. We will do our best to get into the Champions League.

"Now is not the time to be looking ahead to next season. I'm not preparing for that yet because we still have a job to do this season."

Despite Houllier's words it is widely accepted that Finnan will move to Anfield in the summer. Fellow Irish international Damien Duff is also likely to be a major transfer target for the Liverpool manager in the summer months.
