Houllier: European experience is vital

The Reds have faced difficult trips to the likes of Barcelona and Galatasaray in recents years, as well as a must-win clash against Roma at Anfield. The Reds beat the Italian side 2-0 on that day and Houllier knows his team must perform to a similar level again if they are to face the elite of Europe for a third consecutive year.

Houllier said: "I hope our European experience will help us in this situation. We’ve been to many countries and performed well in recent seasons. A few people have said to me that it is better for us to be going to Chelsea knowing we have to win.

"I recall a few seasons ago at Bradford on the last day we needed only to draw to get into the Champions League but we lost the game, this time we know only a win will do."
