Houllier faces selection headache

The young Frenchman returned to the Reds side at the expense of John Arne Riise for the recent wins at Blackburn and Fulham, and Houllier has revealed that he may have played his way into his first-team plans on a more permanent basis.

Houllier said: "Riise has a lot of games coming up and that's partly why he hasn't played. I thought Djimi would be more adapted to playing against Steed Mabranque and he did very well. He knows Malbranque's game well. I thought he was very solid. He also did OK against Blackburn in the Carling Cup.

"I will see how things go in training this week before I decide who plays on Thursday. Djimi is always linked with a move but he is not going anywhere. All that is just agent talk.

"Djimi just needs to be more consistent. The thing you must remember with John is he is playing two play-off games for Euro 2004 with Norway in the next few weeks. Anyway I don't see what's wrong with changing the players now and again. Manchester United do it practically every week so it's not an issue."
