Houllier: Fourth would be 'massive achievement'

The Frenchman insists that injuries to key players and dubious refereeing decisions have thwarted his side this season, leaving a battle for fourth place a great effort in his eyes.

Houllier said: "I don't care what people think, if we finish fourth then it will be a massive achievement for us.

"Despite everything that has gone against us this season - injuries, refereeing decisions and other problems - we are still in there competing and battling. If we manage to finish fourth then we will be pleased we have brought some joy to the supporters.

"I think if we'd kept our best players fit for most of the season then we would have been challenging for second or third. I doubt we'd have challenged for first because Arsenal have been as good this season as they were two years ago when we came second to them.

"We just haven't been as clinical as we could have been at times. We're not a boring team though. You can check the facts and you'll see that we have had more shots on goal than any other team this season.

"I'm relaxed about the final three games. It's not about me. It's about all of us working for the good of the club to try and finish as best we can."
