Houllier grateful for day of rest

After competing in their opening UEFA Cup tie in Slovenia just this Wednesday, the Reds boss feels that the extra day of rest afforded to his side will prove vital.

Houllier said: "It is better for us having the match on Sunday after the trip to Slovenia. This is why we stay over the night before the match as I believe in proper relaxation and sleep."

For the Liverpool players, meeting Charlton in the aftermath of a difficult European tie is a feeling they are fast becoming accustomed to. The Reds won 4-0 at Charlton to clinch a Champions League just days after winning the UEFA Cup in 2001, and also cruised to a 2-0 success at the Valley folowing a draw in Boavista two seasons ago.

Houllier, of course, is hoping that history will repeat itself one more time this Sunday.

He added: "It does seem quite funny that we always play Charlton away after a European match. Hopefully we can get the right result again!"
