Houllier hails 'wonderful' fans

A run of three consecutive Premiership defeats has led to many supporters seriously questioning Houllier's ability to end Liverpool's thirteen-year wait for a nineteenth league championship, but Houllier insists that the Reds will soon prove their worth with the help of an adoring following.

"The fans I meet and speak to are wonderful. They are part of us and if we are to succeed it must be with the fans," enthused Houllier.

"After Ljubljana the players were very happy because they felt there was a bonding between the fans and the team. That is a privilege about this club but at the same time it means we also suffer together.

"Portsmouth is in the past now though and we have to concentrate on Leeds. I think the fans appreciate how we've changed and that it will take time to come together. We are more adventurous and we are taking the game to our opponents. But playing like that away from home you have to take your chances.

"Apart from the Aston Villa game we have had chances in every game. We need to be more clinical in front of goal and that comes with experience. If Florent had more games behind him, he would have taken one of his three chances on Saturday. But we will keep progressing."

Back him... or sack him?
