A match at a side bottom of the table may have been seen as an ideal opportunity to find form for Liverpool, but Houllier has revealed that referee Barry Knight's decision to call off the Molineux game was not as disappointing to him as some would have thought.

Houllier said: "We were up for the game, we were looking forward to it and I wanted it to go ahead.

"But we have to be honest and say the pitch could have caused us problems and the last thing we need at the moment is more injuries.

"Credit to the referee for making such a big decision, but in the end I felt it was the correct one. It was going to be a huge game for both clubs."
