The Senegal international has scored six goals this season and has supplied more assists then any other Liverpool player. For Houllier, Diouf's record suggests that he will be a permanent fixture in the team for many years to come.
Houllier said: "The star player is above all else a team player and that is what El-Hadji is.
"You only have to look at the likes of Wiltord, Pires and Petit to see that few players settle into English football straight away and for El-Hadji there were other factors as well.
"He has scored six goals this season and has created a lot of goals for his team. To me that is a good start. There is more to come from him, but he is still only 22."
