Dudek's misfortune may put further doubt upon his Liverpool career but the players, Houllier has revealed, are behind him.
The Liverpool boss said: "Jerzy was consoled by the players and there was no pointing the finger. That was nice to see.
"He is going through a difficult period. It is a shame as he has done very well for us since coming to Liverpool and has won us games before. When a striker misses a chance it is forgotten but when it's a goalkeeper conceding a stupid goal it is remembered and it makes headlines."
The question is, how much longer will Gerard Houllier offer a sympathetic ear?
