Houllier: I still have faith in my players

The squad will come under more intense scrutiny when they take on Aston Villa tomorrow night, but Houllier believes they can cope with such pressures.

He said: "We want to win the game. Obviously we felt hurt and felt pain after the defeat at Sunderland because we didn't deserve it.

"It was unfortunate that we didn't take more of the chances we created. But we have the mental strength to get through this period, I'm sure about that.

"We are trying to find the solutions at the moment. I have total trust and confidence in the players. I'm keeping faith in them and I have been telling them that the staff are right behind all of them as well.

"It's a testing time for our character and for our nerves at the moment. It seems as though we have run out of luck, but that can change."

Houllier has not ruled out further signings when the transfer window opens, though he insists he is more then happy with his current squad.

"If I think a player is right for Liverpool then I will take him. I am happy with the players we have at the moment so it's not a problem and I'm not thinking about anything else."
