The frenchman, who also believes his side will win the Champions League in this time, said his belief in both himself and his team is as strong as ever.

He said: "At some stage, the club will win the title and win the Champions League under me. That's for sure. In three years' time, the team will be even greater and with a couple more signings. I would be disappointed to leave this club without a championship trophy. That's what Liverpool managers are measured by. But the competition is harsher than in the past, which makes the challenge more exciting. You can name five teams who could win the League now."

"It would be ecstasy. For the fans, winning the Premiership is the ultimate goal - domestic trophies are more important than the Champions League. When we won the five trophies, I said to Michael, 'Which one do you prefer?' He said, 'That one', and pointed to the FA Cup. He turned to me and said, 'Boss, you prefer that one', and pointed to the UEFA Cup. Not many French managers have won the UEFA Cup whereas in England, the FA Cup is the ultimate trophy as well as the Premiership."
