Houllier: It was a deserved victory

"It was important to keep the run in Europe because its always exciting on nights like this one," he said after the game.

"We beat a good team. Technically they could pass the ball. I don't think they had a lot of chances but on the whole I think its a deserved victory."

The Liverpool boss was also happy to see Dietmar Hamann return to the side after injury.

"This is the first game for Didi since early May so its good to see him back," he added. "That's why I didn't take him to Middlesbrough because I wanted him to train and play in the reserves."
