Houllier laments lack of width

The Reds have been criticised both by fans and the press for the narrowness of their play over the past couple of years, which has led to calls for Houllier to bring in a player with the necessary attibutes to play either on the right or left wing.

But although Houllier agrees that his side are a bit short in wide areas he says that the right players are hard to come by, so may instead look to other areas of his side to provide width.

He said: "We don't play with natural wingers because there aren't too many around in the game today.

"If you look at the World Cup, there were 32 teams and only two played with wingers. One was Irish and the other was Spanish.

"I would agree we need to create more width in our play, and there are ways in which we can do that,' he told the club's official website."
