Houllier: Next ten days can decide our season

The Reds first face Birmingham in a crucial Premiership match before hosting Auxerre at Anfield next Thursday. The final match in this ten day period, of course, will see Liverpool face bitter rivals Manchester United in the Worthington Cup Final.

Success in the three games would give renewed hope to the Anfield faithful. Houllier feels his players are more then capable of creating a sense a new optimism for the remainder of what has been a largely disappointing campaign.

Houllier, speaking to the club's official website, said: "We know what is lying ahead of us and we are ready for the challenge.

"I have told the boys that the next ten days are very important for us in this season. We have big games coming up and we all want to do as well as we can in them to make our fans happy.

"Last night we produced a great European result. We had five or six chances to score and that is a good return in a game away from home at this stage of the competition.

"Defensively we are looking very solid again now and that is important. I'm glad we scored a goal last night because we deserved it."
