Houllier: No crisis at Anfield

The Frenchman concedes that the performance against Claudio Ranieri's impressive team was far from perfect but talk of crisis so early in the campaign could be, Houllier fears, the talk of those with a 'hidden agenda' against the Anfield club.

Houllier said: "People forget we played well against Chelsea. It wasn't perfect, far from it, but we showed some good signs and deserved a draw. Even Claudio Ranieri said to one of my staff that we could have been 3-0 up after half an hour.

"We played a huge team in Chelsea. They were a good side last season and with their summer signings they are going to be even more competitive this year. But we deserved a point and that's a positive sign.

"Some people talk of crisis because we have lost one game. Does that mean they'd be saying we'd finish the season as champions if we'd won that game? We have to keep a sense of perspective about things. I just hope the people who talk of a crisis already aren't doing so because they have a hidden agenda.

"My regret this week is that the players were away on international duty. When you lose a game you want to spend as much time as possible with your players to work on things and to keep the morale high. That hasn't been possible which is frustrating.

"But we had a good session today and I'm sure tomorrow's will be even better. We're looking forward to the game at Villa, that's for sure."
