Houllier has defended his signings and claimed that finishing fourth is a success.
Houllier said: "I accept that some signings have not delivered enough. It happens at other clubs, we are not the only ones. It has happened to Newcastle.
"It is not a mistake. It would be if we had not delivered anything, but it is three times in the Champions League now and five trophies.
"I hope that when somebody comes after me in a year's time or maybe next season, because some people seem to think that I am out, he does as well as that."
Houllier continued: "I feel our achievement this week has been overshadowed by what has happened and been said.
"We do not have to prove anything, fourth spot is there to see.
"But I would be pleased if the players were able to show what a good team they are becoming again."
