Houllier on the offensive

The Reds currently stand a disappointing eighth in the Premiership table after five defeats - including home losses to Arsenal, Chelsea and bitter rivals Manchester United - in just 12 games.

Houllier, though, continues to believe that his side's attacking verve will reap the rewards that he believes are deserved in the very near future.

Houllier said: "We played well against Manchester United but didn't get the result we deserved but I won't change our style. I like the way we are playing and I will keep the same attacking style.

"Apart from Portsmouth away when we were not at the races and didn't play well, I would say the other games we have done well performance wise but don't have the results to show for some of them.

"With the exception of Didi Hamann, Jamie Carragher and Milan Baros who are coming back from injury I would say we have a better team than the one which lost 1-0 at Middlesbrough last season.

"The attacking style with the additions of Harry Kewell, Steve Finnan, Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle suits our play. We just need to be more efficient in the defensive aspect of our game and be switched on to defensive tasks a bit quicker than we have done.

"Last season we started a bad run after we lost at Middlesbrough. I hope it will be the other way around this year!

"We have lost 2-1 to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and you might say we played well and at times produced some fine football but we lost. That's a fact.

"We have to be more clinical with our finishing and more clinical when we defend. We have a new style and I want to stick with it and this is the way forward. Maybe it's a watershed but I'm quite happy with the way we are playing."
