The Liverpool manager believes that the 23-year-old is at his best in the biggest of occasions - Thursday's UEFA Cup tie at Celtic Park, therefore, should be the perfect stage for the England player.

Houllier said: "He's a big game player and when he's fit he's one of the best strikers in the world. He can score goals in any game, whether it be with his left foot, right foot or his head.

Michael is coming into form at the moment and I'm pleased for him," adds the boss. "It's good for the team and I think he'll get even better towards the end of the season and next season, I can feel it.

"He's still only 23 and players don't normally reach their peak until around the age of 27 or 28."
