"Michael has been low after the game, but he's a star player and has been going through a difficult period," said the Liverpool boss ahead of Wednesday night's game with Portsmouth.

"When players go through difficult periods, given what they can achieve and given also what they have given to the club, they need the support of their teammates, the staff and the manager."
