Houllier ready to cheer on the Blues

An Everton victory against fourth place Chelsea, if coupled with a Liverpool win over Charlton, would propell the Reds into the Champions League places for the first time this year. Houllier believes that such a set of results is entirely possible in the Premier League.

Houllier said: I believe Everton are capable of getting a result at Chelsea. Tottenham did Arsenal a massive favour last season by beating us in the run-in and that's what I like about this league.

"If Everton beat Chelsea then they are right back in it, they would still have a real chance themselves, but it is more open for us now.

"We know what we want to achieve and we will give it everything until the end of the season. We will give it our best shot but it was a shame we lost the way we did at Manchester United."

The Reds, though, need not rely entirely on a begrudged favour from their Merseyside rivals. If Newcastle United, who have lost their last three Premiership games, are beaten by Aston Villa the Reds could even claim third. Gerard Houllier feels that both Villa and Fulham, who still have Everton and Chelsea to play, have a huge part to play in the race for Champions League football.

Houllier added: "It's funny but I think Aston Villa and Fulham will have an important role to play in who finishes fourth because they both have to play most of the teams involved in that race."
