The Reds boss insists that his players are determined to make amends for Sunday's lacklustre loss at Portsmouth by moving a step closer to a place in the last sixteen of the UEFA Cup.

Houllier said: "The players will fight for this. They are prepared to give their sweat and blood to win this game.

"We are looking a for a good reaction and I know we will get it. The good thing about football is you always get an opportunity to bounce back quickly. That's what we must do tonight.

"The training this week has been good. We have won our last three European ties and every time we play at Anfield in Europe it is special.

"It helps the players to have the supporters behind them. Gerard Houllier is not important, but the team is.

"I've read some comments by Bobby Robson today where he's pointed out that at every big club the manager seems to be under pressure.

"It's happened at Newcastle and even Manchester United. From what you read, it's only Arsenal where the manager seems to be safe!"
