Houllier: Reds are second-class

The Reds currently languish in sixth place at the halfway-stage of the Premiership, with a massive chasm of twenty points currently divided the Anfield team from bitter rivals and leaders Manchester United.

Houllier admits that he is greatly disappointed to find his team struggling amongst the also-rans, but he continues to insist that injuries have held back an expected title challenge.

Houllier said: We realise there are two leagues at the moment - the top three and the rest.

"The number of injuries we have had means it has been very difficult for us to compete with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

"We have to go for fourth place now and there will be several teams doing that.
"We started the season well but if you look at the number of shots we have had since Michael and Harry have been out, it has dipped markedly.

"I can only assess the situation when I get everybody back and fit - then it will be better."
