"Last year we lost Steven Gerrard twice after international games," said Houllier. "We lost Vladimir Smicer two or three times. This time we're losing a goalkeeper and Stephane Henchoz.
"But we know that - that's why we've got a squad. I just hope that sometimes the people understand that. The international games are not always the most welcome at club level."
