Gerard Houllier has hinted that he decided not to sign Nicolas Anelka following his loan move because of 'non footballing' reasons.

The Editor got quite close to Anelka during his stay but forgot to tell him who he was. You may recall an editorial about Anelka at the time when the editor said: "Something is not right somewhere. In my opinion someone is trying to pull the wool over Ged's eyes. Will they get away with it? I doubt it".
The signs were there that Anelka was already taking the **** out of the Liverpool manager and because of this, his short Anfield career came to an end.
Speaking about why Anelka wasn't signed, Gerard Houllier would only say: "I don't want to expose the reasons why I didn't want to sign him but I think he knows why and it has nothing to do with football."
