Houllier sorry for Moyes misery

The fiery Scot, who was dubbed the new shankly by the more optimistic members of the Goodison park faithful after the club reached the heady heights of seventh last season, has come under pressure from media and fans alike after the Blues plunged into the relegation zone this Saturday.

With portly prodigy Wayne Rooney failing to show his electrifying England form for his beloved club side, the former Preston manager could face more probing questions concerning his tenure in the coming months.

Welcome respite from the growing number of snipers has, however, come in the unlikely form of his great rival from across Stanley Park, Anfield supremo Gerard Houllier.

Houllier said: "I feel some sympathy for David Moyes at the moment. He gets a lot of criticism, in a season that seems to go around. Earlier it was Bobby [Robson] and me, and now it is David.

"But people must realise that where a club has stability and continuity, plus belief and support from the people around the manager, there is always success in the air.

"I hope that he will get that because he deserves it. We live in an era of quick fix, quick everything. Not only in the media but in life generally.

"You can be a hero one day and a zero the next. I have spoken to him, but this is an opportunity to give my support.''
