"The players deserve some credit today," he said. "We knew we were working in a difficult atmosphere but we kept our heads held high.
"We wanted to play football. I believe in attacking football. We had a lot of chances and kept a clean sheet. Sometimes we can ignore what they say about us.
"I was reassured after the Tottenham game. We didn't score but had a a lot of attempts on goal and had more fluency and solidity at the back.
"Everton are a good side and play good football at times but we deserved the win.
"It's a special day for the fans and everybody at the club and I knew they'd give something special."
