The Reds are currently languishing in the unfamiliar depths of ninth place following a 2-1 home defeat to Southampton, but the Frenchman has assured the club's troubled supporters that his team will rise again when the likes of Owen and Kewell are fighting fit.

Houllier said: "This is one of the most disappointing spells I have ever had. I just wish we could get all our players back. We are as good as anyone when we have our personnel. We have shown that this season against Arsenal and Manchester United. We must stick to our guns.

"The fans are hurting but no more than more than the players and staff are. We are all disappointed but must remain positive. I am convinced we will have a good spell when everyone is back."
