The team were greeted by a sea of Red wherever they went during their time in Asia, leaving Houllier fully aware that Liverpool truly holds a special place in the hearts of the Far East public.

Houllier, speaking to the club's official website, said: "I think most of the players were stunned by the overwhelming support they had over there, both during the open training sessions and at the games.

"We played two games in the Far East in front of 90,000 people and it really felt like we were playing home games at times because of the number of people in the crowd wearing Liverpool shirts.

"I'd like to thank all the fans from both Thailand and Hong Kong for the support they have given us over the past week. You were all absolutely superb and I hope we can give you a season to enjoy over the coming months."
