The londoner's new-found wealth has sent shockwaves through the Premiership with the likes of Thierry Henry, Juan Sebastian Veron and even Liverpool's own Steven Gerrard coming under transfer scrunity from Chelsea's new Russian owner.

Despite the obvious threat posed by the Blues, Gerard Houllier insists that he still has faith in the resources open to him at Anfield.

He said: "We understand the money seems to be big in other clubs at the moment but here we have talent and we have spirit.

"Our team has a very young average age, with our top players 23 or 24. We also have a great attitude. The team building is good and if we work hard we will be alright.

"Chelsea are changing the face of the game at the moment. The money they are spending will benefit other clubs, who will also have something to spend."
