Houllier unconcerned by Owen drought

The England forward has hit the net just twice in his last fourteen games for the club but Houllier expects the 24-year-old to regain his prolific goalscoring form in the very near future.

Houllier said: "Michael is desperate for a goal but there is nothing wrong with that," claimed Houllier. "The good thing about Michael is he scores, creates and is always on the end of an attack or a good move. He had a couple of chances at Leeds, as he has done in the previous two games, and he just needs one to go in to act as a vitamin for him.

"It was the same with Harry Kewell until he scored against Sofia. You could see the difference that goal made to him at Leeds. Van Nistelrooy is the same, they all go through dry periods. I think Michael will score very soon.

"He's had a few chances lately and though they haven't gone in he's been working extremely hard for the team. It's very seldom he wastes possession now. His game awareness has improved a lot. He is always a threat. The work he puts into training will pay off in the game soon. He's been scoring some fantastic goals in training lately but he's just been unlucky in the matches. I'm not worried about him at all.

"I would be worried if he was not in a position to score but he always is and, as we know, he is very strong mentally so he can cope with these dry spells. I have total faith in him. It is not a problem."
