Houllier: We could have had Rivaldo

Houllier, speaking at last night's AGM meeting, said the former Barcelona player, now at A.C Milan, did not fit in with his plans for Liverpool. A candid Houllier also admitted he still holds a keen interest in Damien Duff.

He said: "I could have signed Rivaldo for Liverpool but that is not my philosophy. With the odd exception we want young players who can develop here. You have to plan for the future."

"We will not pay ridiculous fees for any individuals," Houllier added. "Damien Duff is a player I admire and we made an offer to Blackburn Rovers in the summer."

"But Blackburn wanted a lot more and wouldn't sell. In that case there is not a lot more you can do. The price has got to be right. I will never jeopardise the future of this club for a quick fix.
