Houllier: We have learnt from Bradford defeat

The Reds meeting with Chelsea will of course remind fans of the day Liverpool headed to Valley Parade needing only a point to secure Champions League qualification for the first time. The result that day was a demoralising 1-0 defeat to the struggling Yorkshireman. Three years on, having twice tasted Champions League football, Gerard Houllier's side must claim all three points if they are to
line-up alongside the biggest teams in Europe. The memory of such a dark day will be invaluable for the players, according to Houllier.

Houllier said: "That day at Bradford changed things. We didn't have the mental resilience then, but we have it now. Things will be different this time around.

"It was painful that day, especially because Leeds drew, and we realised afterwards victory over Bradford would have given us the prize we really wanted. The players are older, more experienced now, and I knew changes had to be made.

"There was a sense of desolation that day, and we were too tense and too nervous. When things like that happen, you look at yourself first, and learn about yourself. Then you look at your team.

"Success comes from adversity. We have learned from that experienced, and we've progressed, that's why I don't expect it to happen again.

"A good friend of mine said it was a blessing because we weren't ready for the Champions League then, and it could have knocked us down.

"Now we are ready. We have the experience, and I have the trust in my players to go to Chelsea and get what we want.

"When we want it, we get it, and we really want it."
