Houllier: We must cut out individual mistakes

A run of just one point in five fixtures has led to much criticism of the side, but Houllier knows Liverpool will stick together.

The manager said: "The good thing about the players is that they stick together, Sometimes teams do lose their way. The French national team lost their way at one stage and so have England in the past. I have seen domestic teams - our title contenders - lose their way as well.

"To get out of it we need to pull ourselves together. When you do that and find the solutions then 90 per cent of the job is done. That is what we have been doing.

"If you look at the four games we lost, whether it be against Middlesbrough, Fulham, Manchester United or Charlton, then I can say none of them should have been lost.

"It was individual mistakes which cost us and if you cut them out then we would have been okay. Sometimes it's good to lose because it forces you to focus and to be more determined to put things right. I don't think a team can be successful without falling at times. We have done that now and we want to get back to winning ways very soon."
