Houllier welcomes back key duo

Henchoz has returned to training after missing the final two months of last season with a calf injury, while Kirkland is ready to fight for the goalkeeper's jersey once more after being sidelined for six months with a knee injury.

Both Kirkland and Dudek have joined up with the Liverpool squad for tonight's friendly with FC Cologne and could see action at some point as Gerard Houllier rotates his squad over the 90 minutes.

Houllier said: "Both Chris and Stephane are back now which is a tremendous boost for them and us. The fact they have recovered from their problems is a tribute to their hard work and our medical staff, led by Dave Galley.

"In the case of Chris it is amazing he is back so soon. When he was injured we hoped he would be fit for pre-season, but he has put in a lot of hard work to make sure that was the case.

"We're obviously also delighted Stephane is fit again because he was unavailable for the last few months of the season."
