The Reds are currently languishing an unimpressive ninth in the Premiership table - already 12 points behind leaders Arsenal after just nine league fixtures - but Houllier insists that his side have merely been the victims of bad luck thus far.

Houllier said: "It is still early in the season so I am not going to throw in the towel just yet. We know our targets. The quality of our game so far has been good, and we deserve more than 11 points. Sometimes you have good luck in this game and sometimes bad. But there is no point in complaining."
