Houllier's plans for Heskey

Despite playing Heskey on the wing during recent games the Liverpool boss insists that he is vital to his plans.

"Emile's true position is centre-forward but when he has been asked he's done very well on the left wing. He can make things happen out there," said Houllier.

"He has strength and power and skill. I know he's not at his best and that's because he has played in all the games. In Europe he has been our most consistent player both this season and last.

"People have got short memories but not me. I'm aware he can improve his goalscoring record but sometimes it's a matter of self-belief with him.

"I've spoken with people about the World Cup and asked players themselves and it might take until after Christmas for him to get back to his best."
