Hughes worried about Bellamy

Bellamy scored on his Liverpool debut against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League qualifier but has failed to score for the Reds since. However, Bellamy is full of confidence after scoring his first international goal for 20 months on Wednesday.

Mark Hughes was Bellamy's manager with both Wales and Blackburn so he knows his countryman's abilities and says it is only a matter of time before Bellamy scores his first league goal for the Reds- although naturally he hopes Bellamy waits another week to do so.

"It's only a matter of time before he scores for Liverpool, everyone knows that. He has got supreme confidence in his own ability and rightly so," said Hughes.

"Craig is a very good player; that's acknowledged by everybody. When he's firing and playing well he's great to watch. For the neutral, when he is attacking back fours, it's an exciting spectacle. All I can go on is how we approached it here and most of the play we did in an attacking sense was aimed at getting the best out of Craig.

"We knew we had an asset, a guy who could frighten defences, so it was up to us to make sure we worked not only with him individually but as a team, to get the best out of him. We're pleased that we got the best out of him and like to think we helped him."
