Aufhauser was booked twice for fouling Steven Gerrard but remained on the pitch last night, a decision that may have proved costly for the Reds.
After the match a UEFA spokesman confirmed that the referee's observer would discuss the bookings with the referee and the fourth official.
The spokesman said: "Under UEFA rules we are not able to comment at the moment, but a report will be sent to UEFA for them to consider the incidents."
Aufhauser admits he expected to be sent off and couldn't believe it when the referee allowed him to stay on the field.
"I was expecting the red card," he said. "But it never arrived."
