If only he was English

The Reds boss believes Diouf was sent off simply because he is foreign.

"I don't think it would have happened if Diouf was English. It was an awful decision," said Houllier today. "I never comment on referees but he has made a mistake. The first booking for El-Hadji Diouf was never a foul because we won the ball."

"The second was a foul from behind when he was going through to score. The player from West Brom asked for a red card and the referee changed the decision. It was incredible."

"I will be sending the referee the video of the incident. Fortunately it doesn't need an appeal because your only suspended from a Premiership game if you are sent off in the reserves for violent conduct."

"Diouf was very upset because he had played well, scored a goal and created another. Maybe the referee wanted to make a name for himself. I was absolutely disgusted. It was an appalling decision."
