Impressive Biscan praised by Rafa

The Liverpool defender/midfielder has had a tempestuous relationship with the Anfield crowd, with a rather erratic set of performancers since he signed to the club, sometimes blunderous, occasionally sublime.

But the Croatian was again impressive on Wednesday night against Deportivo, and Benitez hopes that the confidence gained from that match will be apparent in the Croats future appearances.

Benitez said: "We lost Alonso and Cisse, but Igor came in and played very well. And that is important for him and the rest of the squad. I felt in pre-season that he was a good player, but he needed confidence. When you have good players like Dietmarr Hamann, Alonso and Gerrard who are going to play most matches, you know that others in the squad cannot play as many games."

"Sometimes that means that players fighting for a chance lose their confidence. But I have seen how well he has trained, he does well and now I hope that his confidence will improve because that will be important for us in the future," he added.

What is undeniable is that the last seven matches in which Biscan has started, Liverpool have won six, and drawn one. If the Biscan revolution continues, a succesful season could well be on the way.
