Injury blow for Hamann

The Liverpool midfielder had an operation on his shin in the summer but the injury has flared up again and he has had to undergo further surgery in Germany.

"It is a blow for the player and for the club," said Gerard Houllier. "Things like this show why it is so important we have a strong squad."
