Injury blow for opponents

Ricardo Carvalho is reportedly out of the semi-final second leg after injuring his knee during Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Bolton on Saturday. The defender left Stamford Bridge on crutches although this could be a feeble attempt at mind games by the Blues' cry-baby manager.

Michael Ballack is definitely out of the second leg after having an operation on his ankle last Friday but Michael Essien returns from suspension.
