Jamie facing additional one match ban and fines

Not only that but he faces fines from the English Football Association and Liverpool for returning the coin into the Arsenal crowd.

Carragher's quick apology was noted by the FA. Had he not apologised as quickly as he did, as advised by the club management, he would almost certainly face a stiffer penalty.

The extra one-match ban that looks likely to be handed to Carragher would also mean he would miss England's friendly with Holland on February 13th as the English FA will not allow players to represent their country while suspended at club level.

The FA's Director of Communications, Paul Newman has confirmed that the Police are continuing with their investigations and that no action will be taken until after then (Friday onwards we expect).

"The police investigation will go on for several days and we will not make any decision of our own until they are concluded," said Newman. "But we would like to make it clear that we welcome the fulsome apology that has already been made by Jamie Carragher."
