Jerzy learns from his mistakes

"It was just awful after that Manchester United game," he admitted. "I had former team-mates over from Holland and we had booked to go to a restuarant. But I told my wife I wasn't going.

"I just wanted to lock the door, close the curtains and lock myself away for a few days. But after thinking about it for an hour I decided I had to go out. I had to live my life as normal.

"It was hard. I was walking around like a zombie for days but the boss rang the next day to tell me I was playing on Wednesday.

"The reception I got from the supporters was brilliant. It was something I've never experienced before and it will stay with me."

"You have to live with these things and pull yourself out of tough situations at times."
