The Reds defender is eager to play in his first Liverpool-Man U game and to sample what is sure to be a fanatical atmosphere.

"I can't wait to play in this game against our big rivals," said Johnson.

"I've spoken to the boys about what the atmosphere will be like on Sunday. The atmosphere at Anfield is always great anyway but when these boys come to town it's a bit special so I'm looking forward to it.

"I've watched this fixture many times in the past on TV but that was completely different to what it will be like on Sunday because you are not attached and just watching as an outsider.

"We know we are more than capable of getting a victory over United and our supporters will be bringing their best singing voices to Anfield so it will be a good occasion.

"We have a tight bunch of lads who are pulling together just as much as always and we want to get the job done on Sunday.

"We are disappointed with our recent performances as is everybody associated with the club, but we are looking forward now.

"We will be looking to go into the United game and give everything we've got to get a victory."
