The former Liverpool defender is grateful for the extra financial help the switch from Chester City will give the second division club.

"It's a great boost to have a club of Liverpool's stature using our facilities," said Jones, who won the 1977 European Cup with Liverpool.

"Liverpool have signed a few players from Wrexham over the years, so it's nice to be affiliated with them," he said. "Any financial help is a lifeline. We need as much help as we can get.

"Liverpool reserves have used Chester over the last couple of years and I've been there many times to watch them.

"They used to get decent crowds so it's going to be a boost because fans who support Liverpool will come to the Racecourse, and hopefully they'll come back to watch Wrexham as well."
