Jones sorry for travelling faithful

The Liverpool-born former Stockport and Southampton supremo believes that the hosts did all they could to prevent the postponement of the Premiership clash after heavy rain in the Midlands area throughout the day.

Jones said: "We tried as hard as we could to get it on but it just didn't happen. We brought in a special sponging machine but with it still being raining the water was going back on the pitch as soon as we took it off.

"I rang Gerard, who was on the coach not far from the ground, and told him that we had tried everything to keep the game on.

"We both would have wanted to have played so it's disappointing but, the ball just wouldn't roll. I am sad for all the fans who have travelled."
