Josemi to fight for his place

Josemi struggled to adapt to the Premiership at the start of last season before picking up an injury that ruled him out for most of the rest of the season. However, the Spanish defender is confident of finding his form this season and forcing his way back into the first eleven.

"I am very happy at Liverpool. I have been here one year now and I hope to show my best form this season and not get any more injuries. I want to show the supporters that the manager was right to sign me for Liverpool," he told the official site.

"The Premiership is a very difficult league and it took me a while to adapt to the pace and the physical side of the game. I had two injuries which didn't help me and kept me out for a long time but the manager has shown faith in me and I will be a lot better this season. The fans will see the best of Josemi this season.

"I will play anywhere for the manager and for the team. I don't mind playing at right back or centre half. I love tackling and I really like playing at centre half, this is where I'm strongest.

"We will have a lot of games this season with the Premiership, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup so we need to have a big squad and competition for places.

"A lot of people spoke about me returning to Spain in the summer, but for me that was never an intention. I wanted to remain here and show I could be an important player for Liverpool."
